Bromoil is a type of alternative photographic process that mixes techniques of printmaking with the darkroom. It involves bleaching the silver out of a gelatin silver print on fibre paper, hardening the gelatin, and then using that print as a matrix for inking and printing as one would a printing plate. The process adds a painterly effect to the photographic process.
